God, of Independents and Democrats and Republicans, voters and nonvoters alike,
God of the left, the right, and the center, across the entire continuum,
God of the poor and the middleclass, and the wealthy,
God of citizens of all religious faiths and those with none,
God of people of all genders, races, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds,
God of the rural and urban and everywhere in between,
We bring to You our fragmented political system,
And ask You for the courage and perseverance to work to heal our democracy.
Where election campaigns communicate hatred and vindictiveness and deception,
Help us to maintain kindness and honesty in our relationships.
Where loud angry speeches and accusations explode across our screens,
Reduce our anxiety and give us the sense to respond with deliberateness.
Help us to seek the facts and to use them judiciously, as we listen carefully
And sift through all the information we need to make our election decisions.
Jesus came to teach us by example to champion justice and compassion,
To give us what we need to reach out to those who live on society’s margins.
We ask You for the wisdom and integrity we will need in the coming days.
Grant us patience and fortitude, as we try to bridge our political divides.
Help us to speak up, but to speak only the truth with love.
Holy Indwelling God, have mercy upon us in these broken, trying times. AMEN+++
